Name-brand and designer clothes are staple at new store
When Tracy Wann remarried, she gave up a banking job that she never liked and, with the encouragement of her husband, opened the boutique she had always dreamed of.The idea of a gently-used children’s clothes boutique came to me about five years ago when I was a single mom, Wann said.A boutique is what The Tot Spot looks like.
Although she had lacked the self-confidence to ever discuss her dream with anyone else, her husband’s faith in her led to the opening of the resale clothing store this summer at 3430 Willow Knolls Dr.I wanted a store that was like a boutique, not a resale store, Wann said.
Children’s clothes are ideal because they grow out of their clothes so fast, and they destroy them too.She wanted to put the spotlight on children ages newborn to 16, hence the name, The Tot Spot.Wann doesn’t do consignment.I buy the clothes outright on an as-needed basis, she said.In addition to clothes, the store also has shoes, bags, accessories and items that her mother knits such as baby blankets, hats and scarves.Parents of young children will recognize name brands like Bobux, Sozo, Baby Gap and Gymboree.
She also has brand new items bought from overstock supplies of the major retailers as well as house brands of national retailers such as JC Penney. In the window, an elegant soft coat for some lucky girl is retailing for $50.
People like it because they get bargains and still can dress their kids in the name brand items far cheaper. When she’s low on specific supplies, Wann looks through her database of more than 150 names to see if she can refill the shelves. In addition to her husband, her parents help out too.
The kids who had been to another store and seen a Santa earlier, said our Santa was better and like the real Santa.
